Oral Hygiene

The Importance of Oral Health in the Early Years

So much of our health begins in our mouth!  The health of our gums and teeth is directly connected to our heart health and our immune health.

Here at Staghills we are working with our children to promote the good health but we need to work together to create life long healthy habits.

Brushing Teeth

We have shared the tooth brushing charts with you and the children have loved them  Once you have completed return to key workers and we will celebrate with your child.  We have put a selection of charts in the foyer to encourage children to continue with this healthy habit.

Healthy Meals

Hot Lunches are prepared on site by our cook Lyndsey.  Each meal is carefully planned to ensure a healthy meal and the children are given water to drink.

Healthy packed lunches are encouraged and Rachel has created a certificate to give to children who are making healthy choices.  Discussion during this time are focused on healthy foods and the benefits of healthy choices.

Snacks in nursery are always healthy.  Fruit is always shared along with breadsticks and crackers.  The children get a choice between milk and water to drink.

Dummies and Bottles

We realise that sucking is a natural reflex that can have a soothing effect on calming children but if using a dummy/ bottle goes on too long it can have a detrimental effect on children's oral health.
