Staghills Nursery School

A place where children lead the learning

Curriculum

The earliest years of a child’s life are about helping children to become effective learners.

Playing and Exploring
Children find out about the world by exploring and playing, both inside and outdoors. Play is the ideal context for trying things out, taking risks, making mistakes and challenging ourselves in other words, being willing to have a go.
Active Learning
Children learn hands-on following their interests and setting their curiosity on fire. This helps them to develop their concentration and to keep things difficult.
Being Creative
Children are encouraged to develop their own ideas. They have time to think creatively, finding their own solutions to problems and getting ideas from other people.

At Staghills we are working with children and families during the Foundation Years from birth to five years old. The Foundation Years continue with Reception in Primary School. The Department of Education say that at the end of this phase, “children should start school healthy, happy, communicative, sociable, curious, active and equipped for the next phase of life and learning.”

Three things you can do to help your child's learning

There are lots of things that you can do to help your child's learning here are three that are especially important.

Share a book, story or song with your child everyday.

Make time to listen to and talk to your child, put away you mobile phone or tablet so that you can talk without distractions.

Make time for your child to play indoors, outdoors everyday. Invite other children round to play and join in their play.
