Our Governors

A School Governing Body has a distinct purpose .The main aim is to maintain a high standard of education, and to support the development of their children and staff. In order to fulfill this aim they must set the direction of the nursery ensure proper accountability and act as a critical friend to the headteacher and all staff.

Governors ensure that the school is continually improving and that all children are making good progress so that they are ready for Primary School.

The Governing Body has representation from a range of groups including parents, community members, representation from the local authority and from the staff team.

Our Governors are highly committed to their roles and several have a longstanding connection to the school as a pupil or staff member. This means that they know the school really well and they understand the current school priorities and areas for improvement.

The Governors meet at least once a term and are presented with a range of reports from the headteacher, covering pupil progress, finance and resources and they also visit nursery to meet the staff and children and to verify that the leadership team are working well to move the school forward.

Message from our Chair of Governors

Michael Ormerod

On behalf of the Governing Body I would very much like to welcome you to the special place that is Staghills Nursery School is – whether you are a parent or carer of an child already at Nursery, or if you are thinking about choosing Staghills for your child’s early years education and care, I hope you will find the information on this website useful.

Whilst we are very proud of our “outstanding” OFSTED rating, what’s more important for us is the amazing feedback we receive year after year about how much your children enjoy coming to Nursery School and how much they learn during their time with us. We have consistently invested our resources into improving and enhancing both the indoor and outdoor facilities and I am sure you will agree it offers a stimulating and exciting environment for 0-5 year olds!

We are also extremely proud of the excellent staff team, who are supported by a very active group of governors, including a number of parent representatives. It’s our job not only to provide support to the Headteacher and her staff but also to represent the interests of parents and carers.

I have personally been connected to Staghills for over 40 years, initially as a pupil and then as a parent with both my children attending and more recently as a Governor.

I hope you enjoy your “virtual” tour of Staghills and if you would like to visit the real thing we would be delighted to hear from you!

Best Wishes

Mike Ormerod
