A place where children lead the learning
We use nature and the seasons to enhance our delivery of the early years foundation stage curriculum. Our approach enables children to spend a great deal of time in the outdoors, and in all weathers.
The statement, ‘The best classroom and richest cupboard is roofed only by the sky’, underpins the school’s ethos and drive to use nature and the seasons to stimulate children’s curiosity and enhance their learning. This includes in their early reading, writing and mathematical work.
We believe that nature is both nurturing, therapeutic, educational and the perfect place for children to learn and grow as they explore the environment, their world and their place within it. Woodlands and natural spaces develop an inquisitive mind, a strong body and sound social and emotional skills.
You as a parent or carer are passionate about your children and you want the best for them, so do we !
Children growing up in nurturing environments flourish. We know that children thrive when they are building strong relationships with other children, with grownups and the environment in which they live and learn supports this. Nature is the perfect environment for children. You know from your own childhood that the fondest memories, the greatest learning probably happened when you were outside playing with your friends. We are replicating that for your children in a safe place and allowing your children to learn freely.
We are becoming increasingly aware of the Scientific research in early childhood development. Children require connection with nature in order to support their brain function and holistic development in intellectual, cognitive, creative, linguistic, emotional, social and physical processes.
We started as a small project over 10 years ago, taking small groups of children out in the woods for their nursery session we have now developed forest school into an integral part of our work and we have developed our own woodland area and allotment and outdoor play areas to provide a wide range of learning opportunities for children from 0-5 years old.We have 5 staff who are level 2 forest school leaders and we support the professional development of staff through visits to nature kindergartens in Denmark and Scotland.
